ASHLAND, Ky. (WYMT/WSAZ) - An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a house fire in Ashland, but the homeowner believes the fire was intentionally set.

The fire started just before 10 a.m. in the 3200-block of Hackworth Street in Ashland.

Fire crews on the scene say that something just didn't look right, so they have started an investigation.

The owners tell us that they believe someone broke into their home and stole several items, including a shotgun, laptop and televisions. They believe that the thief set the house and fire and drove off in a rental truck with their belongings.

The owners were not at home at the time the fire started

Major Mark McDowell with the Ashland Police Department says the incident is being investigated as both a burglary and arson.

McDowell says both the police department and fire department are involved in the investigation. He says a number of people are being interviewed, including neighbors..
