MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A temporary traffic signal has been put up on Route 40 in Martin County near the Johnson County line. Traffic has been reduced to one lane because of a break in the road that happened early Thursday morning.

The break is about 100 feet long. Officials say crews will begin repair work on Tuesday and the road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for two or three days. Sara George with Highway District 12 explains, "We will have to use three or four rows of steel for this particular break and it will take a couple of days to get all of that steel drilled in, while they are working we will not be able to have traffic going through."

Officials say they will accommodate school buses and emergency vehicles that need to get through. Depending on weather, officials hope to have the road repaired in four to five working days.
