A busy road is expected to have less traffic in the future.
Transportation officials say they plan to construct a new U.S. 25. They say it will be a straight shot from Corbin to London without the traffic headaches.
Part of the plans also include adding more four-way intersections and making the "current" U.S. 25 four lanes.
"Our hopes are by establishing this diversion, that we can relieve the stress on that route, reduce congestion, and really try to ease these conditions which have resulted in over 1,200 crashes in a ten year period," said the Public Affairs Officer of District 11 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
One person who says she drives on U.S. 25 every day, Tina Carnes, said she supports the plans.
"To be able to pull out and not be worried that someone is going to hit you. And actually have a break in the road. When the school gets out, you can actually get up and down the road a little bit better. There's just horrible traffic out through here. It's dangerous at times," Carnes said.
Transportation officials say they think construction will start in early 2015. They say the budget is $7,000,000.
