Officials remember Kentucky State Trooper

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Law enforcement officials throughout the region are remembering state Trooper Alex Rubado. Rubado served at Post 9 in Pikeville for about a year before retiring due to illness.

Trooper Rubado died Thursday evening at the age of 40 after what his colleagues call a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Trooper Shaun Little says, "Alex fought really hard, anytime we went to see him he was strong."

Determination was a trait they say he possessed as he worked his way to becoming a state trooper. Johnson County Sheriff Dwayne Price says, "Even as a young child it was all he talked about, he just wanted to be a police officer."

Rubado spent time in the Prestonsburg, Paintsville, and Frankfort Police Departments before serving at Post 9.

Those who worked with Rubado through his years in law enforcement say his goal was always to work as a state trooper.

Trooper Little explains, "He always wanted to be a state trooper and he achieved that and he is from Paintsville so he got to move back home and work in the community where he was from."

They say he was a strong family man who loved his wife, adored his two children and cherished being a police officer.

Sheriff Price says, "Tough to lose someone, as law enforcement family it doesn't matter if you're city, state, or county, we have a brotherhood, and it is just terrible when something like this happens to one of us."

Trooper Little says, "He was a part of the family and he always will be a part of the state police family."

His police family says they will be there for Rubado's family and never forget their brother who taught them to be strong no matter what the circumstance.

Visitation for Trooper Rubado will be held Saturday from 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon - 9 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville.
