HONAKER, Ky (WYMT) - An investigation is underway after a fire partially destroys a home in the Honaker Community of Floyd County.
Officials say the fire appears to have started in the attic, and it appears to be accidental.
The Betsy Layne Fire Department received the call about 10:00 this morning.
When they arrived, they say smoke was coming from the home.
Neighbors were worried that the owner might still be inside.
"We sent two firefighters in and conducted a quick search of the upstairs, and it came up negative. So we commenced fire firefighting operations," said Betsy Layne Firefighter Nate Looney.
Officials say most of the fire and smoke damage was contained to the top floor and the attic, but the first floor did receive some water damage.
