LONDON, Ky (WYMT) - Officials say business in one eastern Kentucky county is growing.

Recently the Laurel County Industrial Authority says the final lot in their fourth industrial park was sold, and they say they are looking for more land.

"It's actually phenomenal that during the recession we have been able to grow," said Laurel County Judge Executive David Westerfield.

"We currently have some other companies that are showing interest, and we are working on those projects," said Executive Director of the London-Laurel County Industrial Development Authority Charles Pennington.

Right now, Laurel County has five industrial parks, and Pennington says there there are only 23 acres available in the fifth industrial park.

"Hopefully in the near future we can secure a new industrial park and have it available for the people. We have had a lot of industries looking at Laurel County," said Westerfield.

Both officials say one of the main reasons industrial businesses want to locate in Laurel County is simply because of the location with easy access to Interstate 75.

"Our transportation is unique in that we are probably within only a few hours of the population of this country, and that's a major attraction to any company," said Pennington.

Officials are looking for about 100 acres of land to develop their sixth industrial park in hopes of keeping Laurel County's economy growing and expanding.

Westerfield says the county has also not seen an major layoffs in recent years.
