They applied for a grant, but did not receive it and now officials with the Letcher County Transitional Home say they will not give up on their mission of helping others.
From lifestyle training courses to food, clothing, and a roof over their heads the home helps women in need get back on their feet and move in the right direction.
“Many of the women who come in here have a very low self esteem. We work to help make them see their worth, help them to see their worth,” Phyllis Barker said.
But just two weeks ago, Phyllis Barker, the director of the housing system says she found out they were not approved for a grant.
Making everything they offer much harder.
Barker says the center is full and there is a growing wait list...
Running this center will not be easy without the grant money, according to Barker. They will continue to help people as much as they can.
“It will be much harder but I think with our community support we'll be able to maintain. It won't be as easy, but we will continue,” Barker said.
Barker says donations are always welcome.
Barker told us clothing and food for the families are the most needed.
