Pike County officials are working to get construction on the proposed Energy Research Center back on track.
The proposed "American Energy Research Center" will be built on Scott Fork next to US 119. Architecture plans are already designed, but leaders say the economy problems in the last few years put the program on the shelf.
Pike County leaders are planning to ask the next general assembly for funding to build the research center.
"We're going to make that a reality in the future with the help of all the universities, and it means we can do research here, training here," said Judge-Executive Wayne T. Rutherford.
The proposed energy research center will be made up of corporations, universities, and national laboratories.
