Ohio cycle tour takes off from Statehouse

The event has grown from a father-son outing in 1962 to the largest bicycle touring weekend in the nation. About 2,500 riders are expected for its 52nd run.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Thousands of cyclists are taking part this weekend in Ohio's celebrated cross-state bicycle tour, the Tour of the Scioto River Valley.

Riders began their journey from the Statehouse in Columbus for the two-day, 210-mile round-trip ride to Portsmouth on the Ohio River

Officials are warning motorists along the route to be on the lookout for cyclists throughout the weekend and to use care.
