FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Crowds filled the theatre at Friday night’s opening of the classic "Oklahoma" at the Jenny Wiley Theatre.

Kentuckians are taking a trip into Oklahoma right from their seats in the Jenny Wiley Theatre.

Crowds came to watch the Broadway classic on its opening night.

“It's very identifiable. Everybody knows certain songs or have grown up with the songs or they've seen the movies,” said Miriam Henkel-Moellmamn.

But for several cast members this is not their first rodeo.

“It was actually the first show I ever really did I had a very small part my freshman year of high school,” said Evan Faram.

Most of the actors and actresses aren't just coming on to the stage for their role in Oklahoma, but have the challenge of having roles in two plays.

“It's a lot of music to learn a lot of lines to keep in your head, stage directions, blocking, entrances costumes, lots of things just to keep in the back of your mind,” said Faram.

The stage transforms from the plains of Oklahoma in 1906 to the hills of Amsterdam in the 1940s night after night, and cast members say each night is just as fun as the last.

“The cast is extremely fun they're all very well natured and great to have fun on stage with. We like to joke around,” said Henkel-Moellmamn.

However, on Friday night, audiences are where the winds come sweeping down the plains.

The play will run through mid-August.
