Old Trus Joist site will be sold

A large piece of commercial property in Perry County will be sold.

The site of the now-closed Trus Joist facility will become the property of its parent company. Weyerhaeuser after the firm fulfilled a 15-year agreement with Perry County officials.

The plant was shut down after the contract ended in 2007, costing 270 people their jobs.

“We were hoping that they would come back and we were told at one time that maybe they would. With the housing market down the way it is, they just can't sell their products,” Perry County Judge Executive Denny Ray Noble said.

The piece of land takes up about 34 acres and officials expect the land to fetch up to six million dollars.
