Morgan County shooting death ruled homicide

MORGAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened early Tuesday morning in Morgan County.

Around two Tuesday morning, police were called to a home on Archie Watkins Road in the Ezel community. Police say that 47-year old James Patton and 38-year old Ronald J. Carmichael had been involved in an altercation. According to police, the altercation escalated and Patton was shot.

The Morgan County coroner says that Patton died at the hospital from a single gunshot wound to the chest. His death is being classified as a homicide.

According to Kentucky State Police, Carmichael was interviewed and released. The incident remains under investigation.

Patton's body is being taken to Frankfort for an autopsy.
