ALLAIS, Ky (WYMT) - A Perry County man is without his fiancee and most of his possessions after a fire gutted his home Tuesday night.

It happened on Albert Hall Road in the Allais community.

When Michael Williams came home Tuesday night he encountered something he never thought he would see.

"As I was pulling in with a friend, he said there was smoke coming out of the trailer," Williams said. "At that time I jumped out, busted the door and the backdraft hit and blew me back out."

Williams tried to save his fiancee, Jo Ann Combs Caskey, 42, but it was too late.

"She was the best person you would ever meet," Williams said. "She never cussed. She loved animals. She didn't do anything. You wouldn't meet a better person in the world."

Williams received burns on his hands and face.

"It's absolute chaos," he said. "I've lost everything. I'm homeless. I don't have any clothes. I don't have anything now."

Caskey was a waitress at the Circle-T Restaurant in Hazard for more than 20 years. Coworkers we talked to say Caskey was well-liked by staff and customers.

"She was just really enthusiastic," said Heather Lewis, who worked with Caskey. "If you were having a bad day she was always concerned to see what was going on. She didn't care to help us all out and she will be dearly missed."

Neighbors are still in shock, too.

"I dreamt about the fire all night," said Debbie Davis, who lives nearby and made the 911 call. "I couldn't even look out my window when I got up this morning. It was just heartbreaking to see a friend die."

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - Officials say the victim in Tuesday night's house fire is Jo Ann Combs Caskey, 42.

We are told she worked at the Circle T Restaurant for more than 20 years.

The coroner tells us Caskey was the sister of Jerry Combs, who was stabbed and killed six months ago, also in the Allais community.

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - A woman is dead after a fire in Perry County.

It happened in the Allais community near Hazard around 6:30pm Tuesday.

Officials had to block a road as they battled the mobile home fire.

“Upon our arrival there were flames coming out of the entire structure. At that time they had informed us someone was in there,” Hazard Fire Chief Sam Stacy said.

It's not known what caused the fire.

We do not know the name of the woman who died.

Her body will be sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
