The news of Osama bin Laden's death strikes a chord with all Americans. But it has special meaning when you have served overseas to fight for that cause.

"I was skeptical at first because we've been so close," said Retired Lt. Coloniel John Luttrell.

When Luttrell heard the news, it brought back memories of his time in Iraq.

"America has accomplished something significant, that it's a victory for all Americans, for doing something that took us a decade," said Luttrell.

Luttrell and his soldiers were in Iraq for one year fighting the War on Terror.

"It was an honor for me. I have over 600 soldiers in the Kentucky National Guard," said Luttrell, "It was very special, very honored to be able to lead the Mountain Warriors."

Now the man believed to be responsible for the terror that gripped the country ten years ago is dead.

"He represents the devastation, destruction, and death that occurred on 9/11," said Luttrell.

Though that pain will never be gone, Luttrell said justice has been served.

"I am elated that our soldiers got to go on the ground and execute the mission and actually put an end to him," said Luttrell.

A message from the United States to all its enemies, that this land will avenge its attackers.

"We might not get you in the first year or two, but if you do something like he did and mastermind that kind of thing, we will get you," said Luttrell.

Luttrell said while this is a victory for America, our national will still need to remain vigilant, because Osama bin Laden's terror network is not the same as it was ten years ago.
