Police say it's a fact that they are not proud of ...alcohol-related traffic deaths jump on New Year's Eve.

Officers in eastern Kentucky have a goal ...to make sure no life is lost from drinking and driving.

Statistics show the holiday season has the highest number of crashes involving alcohol.

The Over the Limit, Under Arrest program will be in full speed this weekend.

State police will conduct checkpoints throughout the state to make sure people are not drinking and then getting behind the wheel.
Police say it is a common mistake that people do not realize how intoxicated they are until it's too late.

"They think they are alright, and they try to proceed from one destination to the other but they usually get pulled over and they have had more than what they think they have had," said Jimmy Halcomb with Kentucky State Police.

Sheriff's departments throughout the region plan to have extra officers on duty to make sure all the roads are safe.
Officers want to encourage folks to just be smart.

Last year during the New Year's Eve enforcement period ... there were 368 DUI arrests.
