Panel approves proposal on teacher evaluations

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Student achievement could become an
indicator of how well teachers are performing their jobs under a
proposal that cleared the House Education Committee on Tuesday.
Democratic state Rep. Carl Rollins II of Midway, chairman of the
Education Committee, is sponsoring the measure that now goes to the
full House for consideration.
The legislation calls for the Kentucky Department of Education
to develop the proposed evaluations and have them ready to use in
2014.
Rollins said the measure would "promote continuous professional
growth of our teachers so that they can become better."

The legislation is House Bill 40.
