CUMBERLAND, Ky. (WYMT) - Parents in Harlan County are claiming that their children were injured in a bus crash Friday afternoon.

Some were even treated for concussions, but police and school officials are calling it a minor tire blow out.

Parents are asking why they weren't notified when it happened.

Ten year old, Jesse Turner rides the bus from school every day, but he says Friday afternoon's bus ride ended differently.

“We had to stop at the other kids stop and trade out busses,” says Jesse.

His dad, James Turner, says he was a little worried when Jesse got home late, “He came off the bus and said his head and shoulder was hurting, and we asked him what happened and he said he got in a wreck.”

And he was not the only parent shocked by the news.

“I said what's give you a head ache she said well mom we had to switch busses out my head hit the window. She said well the bus hit the wall,” says Shannon Jenkins.

The 2 to 3 foot tall brick wall still has tire marks from Friday’s hit. Witnesses say that even after the tire blew the bus driver didn't stop, that he actually continued driving down Keller Street until he reached the highway.

The property owner, Billy Boggs Sr., says the wall is hit often.

He heard the accident happen, saying “I heard a big boom and I thought another truck had hit my wall again.”

But Harlan County School officials say it was not serious enough to report and they followed all necessary procedures.

“You always worry about having a bad bus accident. This was not. No children were injured that we know of to any extent,” says Harlan County Schools Superintendent, Mike Howard.

Parents say school officials have agreed to compensate them for any hospital bills as a result of the blow out.

They also say that since an official report was not taken at the scene, they filed a civilian report with the Harlan County Sheriff's Office.
