Paintsville, Kentucky - Officials with National United Nurses say on average U.S. Hospitals charge $1,200 for every $100 dollars of their total costs.
In the report, Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville is highlighted as the third most expensive hospital in the U.S.
The hospital released a statement today about the report, on behalf of Health Management, Paul B. Hall's parent company.
"We are committed to providing our patients with great care in the most efficient way we can. Looking at charge data in isolation does not take into account a full picture of the complex reimbursement environment in which all hospitals must operate. When considering the vast services provided to our patients, the revenue we actually collect is reasonable. Realistically, all hospitals only collect a small percentage of charges."
"Furthermore, it's worth noting that many patients have benefited immensely from the specialty care and services HMA has been able to introduce and/or enhance at our community hospitals — especially rural hospitals -- as well as from investments made in capital improvements."
