Pedestrian killed while crossing the road

A Floyd County woman is killed while trying to cross the street.

State police say around 8:30pm Thursday night, 66 year old Sharon Ann Ray was crossing U.S. 23 in Stanville when a car hit her in the northbound lanes.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the car's driver, William Watson of Johnson County, was not injured.

Police are still determining exactly what happened.

Witnesses told us it appeared the driver could not have prevented it.

“As of right now, it looks just like someone attempting to cross U.S. 23 when they were struck by a vehicle,” Trooper Shaun Little said.

Lucas and Son Funeral Home in Pike County is handling the arrangements for Ray.
