HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Hundreds of people took time Monday to pray at one Eastern Kentucky elementary school.
Folks held hands to form a circle all the way around the new East Perry Elementary.
At first, they were a little short. But they got an assist from members of the Perry Central football team who were practicing nearby.
Organizers said they wanted to start the school year on a positive note.
"We felt like if we could do that and open it up and show that God's important in our lives, we've not kicked him out of our schools, we want them there, that God will bless these kids and bless this place," said school resource officer Jeff Ritchie.
The first day of school in Perry County is Wednesday.
