HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Tuesday might have been Christmas day, but many people were still at work, including some who were protecting and serving in Perry County.

“The shift yesterday had a small fire and they had to respond to that and they extinguished it and put it out,” said Freddie Guffey with the Hazard Fire Department.

Some even served dinner.

“I've been here since 11:30 this morning and it's been nonstop,” said Huddle House waitress, Whitney Allen.

The fire fighters in Hazard were working throughout the holiday to ensure your safety at home.

“It makes it nice on the other end though, to know that if you're that person making a call to 911 that someone's coming to you for help,” said Guffey.

And the Huddle House was there for those who don't want to cook during the holiday.

“We serve breakfast all day, and we did a turkey and ham dinner today so people just come out to spend time with their family; takes the edge off cooking I guess,” said Allen.

Even at WYMT-TV there was always someone behind the scenes making sure your TV was on.

“I roll the commercials put on the programming as you see here switch between local programming and network,” Kevin Hill with WYMT.

Most of all they each want to ensure you're surrounded by family.

There’s most people that don't have families so they come here by themselves, and we give them turkey or ham and try to be as family I guess as we can with them and try to talk to them,” said Allen.

They all said they were trying to turn a day of work into a labor of love from one family to another.
