Since Monday, the owners of the Double Kwik gas station chain have lowered gas prices to match the year the store was opened, meaning anyone filling up at this one, in Neon opened in 1978, got gas for $1.97 and eight tenths a gallon.
"I think we need this. I appreciate it, bad times right now. People need the gas," said Audy Stewart.
"It's wonderful that they're going to do this. Yeah we need some cheap gas, I can tell you that," said Wallace Whitaker.
And cheap gas is what the people are getting, from ten in the morning till two in the afternoon.
It's part of a promotional "old school" week put on by the owners of the Double Kwik chain.
"Gas is only going to continue to go up this summer, which is hard on us and it's hard on our customers. So we were trying to think of something we could do that everybody could be a winner," said owner Missy Matthews.
Matthews says customers have been good about waiting their turn and so far this week they haven't had any major incidents.
However, she says they have seen a few un-nerving displays of people trying to get the most out of this deal.
"Garbage cans and fifty five gallon drums and you know, it's just not safe."
Given it's success, they hope to have another reduced price spree in the future.
Customers can fill up for the reduced prices two more times this week in Letcher County.
Those locations are only revealed by clues on the radio.
