HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Kids were given gifts to open on Christmas morning, at the Hazard Lions Club Christmas Giveaway.
The kids sang songs to welcome a special guest Thursday.
Santa, Mrs. Claus and even Rudolph gave out presents to kids that needed a little extra help this holiday season
“Everybody needs a little help now, and then and that's what we're trying to do,” said Jim Wooton with the Lions Club.
The Lions Club buys gifts each year for about 25 students, and each are designated by the school's family resource department.
“We try to buy them shoes, coats, whatever items that the teachers have deemed they need, and then we give them a toy,” said Wooton.
Officials said that many families are in need this year for the extra help.
“We have a larger number of families that need help right now because of the layoffs; so it's been a big increase of families that need help with clothes,” said Family Resource Director, Sandra Olinger.
That was why Lions Club members said they share the holiday spirit.
“This is a big plus and a big bonus for our kids and the families also,” said Olinger.
All of it done, so that a few more gifts can be opened on Christmas morning.
