VICCO, Ky (WYMT) - It has been two years since the city of Vicco in Perry County has had its own police officer; but as of this week, a new police chief is in charge.
Tony Vaughn says he is glad to take the job.
“I called Johnny up and said if you get somebody and want to hire somebody I'd be really excited to have the job. I'd be really glad to have it,” said Vaughn.
City officials say they have worked for 6 months to open the position and are glad to have a new police presence.
“Hopefully they'll understand that it's time to do something different somewhere else if anything because it's going to change,” said Vaughn.
The mayor says there have been challenges in funding for the position, but it could bring about other improvements in the city.
“We want a playground and a city park for the kids but you know with certain elements running around, families are not going to feel safe. We want this to be a safe place for families,” said City Mayor, Johnny Cummings.
At this time, Vaughn says he won't have any officers working for him, but that he will try to be available to anyone in the city, at any time.
He will begin working as the chief on February 1st.
