HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - You might have received roses or chocolate from your Valentine on Thursday. But some people in Perry County received the gift of song.
Todd Craft was surprised by his musical gift - a group of ladies serenading him.
"I was a little embarrassed, to be honest with you" Craft said. "My sweet wife did this for me. But it did embarrass me with everyone singing to me."
These women have February 14th circled on their calendars every year. They have been doing it for more than 20 years.
"This isn't anything that anybody in this area does," said Teresa White, the group's leader. "Anybody can get flowers. They can get roses. They can get balloons. But they also get heart from us."
What makes this musical delivery service even more special is the motive behind it.
All of women delivering the singing telegrams are employees at the Hazard Health and Rehabilitation Center. The singing telegrams are a fundraiser for the center.
"It was very nice. I enjoyed it," said Maxine Martin, who received a singing telegram Thursday. "I like all these girls that are singing to me."
White said, "Sometimes it's very emotional. It makes us cry sometimes because it's so touching to the people with their loved ones thinking of them on this special day."
