HAZARD, Ky (WYMT) - The 2014 election is going to be a big one, including in Perry County.
On Wednesday, there was a line of people waiting to file their candidacy papers for public office outside the county clerk's office in Hazard.
It was the first day to file.
Offices like county judge executive, sheriff, jailer and mayor of Hazard, Vicco and Buckhorn are all up for grabs.
County Clerk Haven King said folks have until January 28th to file.
He added that whether you plan to run for office or not, there is still one thing everyone should do.
"Really if you do not vote, you really need to just be quiet. But everybody needs to vote because we have got men and women fighting and people getting killed everyday to give us the right to vote," said King.
The primary election will be held in May.
