Posted: Wed 5:41 PM, Dec 28, 2011

A woman charged with shooting her brother and killing his girlfriend this summer is competent to stand trial.

A doctor hired by Sarah Melton's attorneys says the 42 year old woman is competent.

Melton is accused of killing Cindy Caudill and injuring Bill Couch with one shot.

It happened in the Brown's Fork community in Perry County in June.

Officials say Melton's lawyers plan to use an insanity defense.

A trial date has not been set.
