PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT)- Donnie Starns, owner of the Johns Creek Drug Center was not planning on repairing a hole in the roof of his business this Saturday, even though he says he has seen a variety break ins through the years
Starns said, “We've been here over 25 years so they've tried a little bit of everything, knocked the brick out, tried to go through the grates here and come up through the floor. So we think about these things and all these things have alarms on them, our goal is to keep them out.”
Starns says his store averages about three break-ins per year, and that this is the first one that someone has attempted to go through the roof. Because he has been in the business for several years, Starns says he knows firsthand the importance of having strong security.
“Because we are a pharmacy and the drug situation being what it is in this area not just this area but everywhere, you've got to have security.”
Starns went on to say that as whoever attempted to break into the store got through the roof, the alarm went off and he believes it scared them away. While they did not get away with anything, they did leave behind a lot of damage. This forces a business in the community for more than 25 years, to once again make repairs after yet another break in.
Kentucky State Police are investigating the incident, Starns says they are currently reviewing some surveillance footage and following up on some leads. No other information has been released.
