PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Officials in Pike County say an inmate on work release went missing and has still not been found.

Officials say Jeremiah Young was in jail on charges of theft by unlawful taking.

He was allowed out on work release and was working on the back of a garbage truck. Jail officials say the workers went back to the county lot to work on one of the trucks, and when they got done they realized Young was not there.

"He was a state inmate. The state classifies them. They're the ones that let them go out and work, so he was just working for the county on the back of a garbage truck," said Pike County Jailer Rodney Scott.

Officials say Young had already served more than two years in jail and would probably have been up for parole this summer.

Officials say he is originally from the Phelps area.

They say they do have reason to believe he is still in the area. Young was last seen wearing green pants with 'inmate' written on them. He is about as six feet tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone who sees Young should contact state police.
