Pike County teen is elminated from national spelling bee

The Kentucky 13-year old who went into the semi-finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee was eliminated.

Emily Keaton, of Pikeville, spelled the word Chamaephyte wrong.

According to Merium-Webster Dictionary Chamaephyte is a perennial plant that bears its perennating buds just above the surface of the soil.

Keaton tied for 39th in last year's bee.

A 14-year old from San Diego won the spelling bee.
