A new Miss Kentucky was crowned over the weekend, and this year the winner is from right here in Eastern Kentucky.

It's been 20 years since a Miss Kentucky came from Pike County, but that all changed when Jessica Casebolt was crowned Saturday night.

She made a one day trip to Pikeville on Monday where she talked with Mountain News.

As the newly crowned Miss Kentucky, Jessica says it's all still sinking in.

"Last year I didn't make the top 13, but this year I was hoping and praying to make the top five, and then when they announced my name as the winner I almost couldn't believe it," said Jessica.

As a proud Pikeville native, she says without community support, she would not be wearing the Miss Kentucky crown today.

"Pike County has just rallied behind me whether it be from ad sales, or evening gowns, or just support and encouragement," said Jessica.

She is getting ready to embark on a year long journey spreading her platform of heart health awareness across the state, a passion of hers that she's promoted in Pike County for more than four years now.

She will also compete in the Miss America Pageant in January.

She says she is ready to compete in the "big show!"
