Pikeville teen competes in the national spelling bee

An eastern Kentucky girl is competing in the 85th Annual National Spelling Bee.

13-year-old Emily Keaton from Pikeville spelled her first word, codeine, correctly in the preliminary round.

278 participants won local and regional spelling bees to make it to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
