Police: Drunk driver hits several cars going wrong way down I-75

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say a woman was driving drunk when she hit several cars while driving the wrong way on the interstate.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, Whitley County 911 received several calls about a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lane from exit 15. As officers responded, Whitley County 911 received additional calls reporting the vehicle had sideswiped four vehicles. As the hit-and-run vehicle approached the 12 mile marker, it collided head-on with another vehicle.

Police arrested 41-year old Angela Vannatter, of Eaton Town Road, and the passenger, 24-year old Elizabeth Paul, of Rockholds. Police say that both were under the influence of alcohol. The arresting officer says he also found the presence of open alcoholic beverages in plain sight inside the vehicle.

Three people inside the last vehicle that was hit were transported to Baptist Regional Medical Center by Whitley County EMS and were treated for minor injuries.

Angela Vannatter is charged with DUI and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Additional charges will be presented to a Whitley County Grand Jury.

The passenger, Elizabeth Paul, was charged with Alcohol Intoxication. Both were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
