Police: Laurel Co. mom drunk while caring for kids

Deputies say a woman was "extremely intoxicated" while caring for her two young children.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Two Laurel County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Dewberry Road on Wednesday evening around 6:30. They went to conduct a welfare check after getting a report of an intoxicated woman, who was caring for her children.

When deputies arrived at the scene , they found an extremely intoxicated woman, who stated she had been drinking. Deputies also found her two children ages 1, and 5 in the home. Social Services was called to the scene and the children were placed with other family members.

Deputies arrested Emilinia M. Butler, age 25 of Keavy. She is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Facility.
