Police: Man electrocuted while stealing copper

Updated: Fri 6:59 PM, Jul 20, 2012

A copper theft turned deadly in Cumberland Friday morning.

20-year-old Brandon O'Neil Hall was found dead after police say he was electrocuted while trying to steal copper wiring.

Police received a tip Friday morning that a body was on top of the old Big Lots building in Cumberland.

They say it appears Hall was electrocuted while trying to steal the copper wiring that led to the building.

Brandon Hall's uncle says he is having trouble accepting his nephew's death.

"It cost him his life, a life that you can never get back, and all you got now is memories," said Randy Hall.

His uncle does hope that others can learn a lesson from this.

"It's just stupid to do it for a few dollars. It cost a boy his life for probably making $50.00 to $60.00," said Randy Hall.

He wants people to remember that when you are stealing copper, you are risking your life.

Police sent the body to Frankfort for an autopsy.
