LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) Employees at the London Post Office called police Wednesday morning when they found two toddlers, ages two and three wandering around the parking lot.
“The postal employees had the children in the office giving them some water to cool them down a little bit and were giving them a little bit of food,” London Police Officer Bryon Lawson said.
Thirty minutes later, the children’s mom Amber Lorman, 26, called police to report her kids missing.
“She said she was asleep, she checked on them at 8:00 a.m. and they were there. Then she got back up around 8:30 a.m. and they were gone. But she waited until 10:00 a.m. to call us,” Lawson added.
Investigators believe the two toddlers took a trail that many folks in the neighborhood, including their mother, use to cross a small creek and wooded area to get to the Post Office parking lot located 1/4 of a mile away from their home.
Patricia Hacker is a family friend and says Lorman is a good mother to her kids.
“She works, she tries to take care of her children, she pays her bills, no one else does, she does,” Hacker said.
Hacker says she’s just glad the situation did not become worse.
“I’m sad that the kids got out, thank God they didn’t get hurt,” Hacker added.
Lorman and the children’s father, Shawn Smith, 21, face two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
Both children are now with other family members.
