SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - The Somerset Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred Saturday night.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's deputy noticed a vehicle parked in front of a closed business with no headlights on shortly before 10pm Saturday night.

When the deputy went to check on the situation the vehicle, driven by 36-year-old Justin Litton of Somerset, fled, heading eastbound on KY 80.

Litton crossed the centerline just west of the WTLO Road Intersection and struck a white Suzuki driven by 33-year-old Levi Stephens of Somerset.

The impact trapped both drivers in their vehicles and sent Stephens' vehicle off the road where it came to rest on the north side of the highway.

Litton was airlifted from the scene to the University of Kentucky Hospital.

Stephens was transported to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead by the Pulaski County Coroners Office.

Traffic on West KY 80 was blocked for about three hours as the SPD Accident Reconstruction Unit conducted their on-scene investigation.

Officers were assisted at the scene by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, the Pulaski County Coroner's Office, the Somerset-Pulaski County EMS, the Somerset Fire Department, and the Somerset-Pulaski County Haz-Mat Special Response Team.

The accident is still under investigation and investigators say alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
