Police investigating Letcher Co. death

Updated: Thu 6:46 PM, Mar 14, 2013

MAYKING, Ky (WYMT) - Her family says she was a kind woman with a big heart, but police are investigating her death.

Connie Webb Elswick was found dead Thursday morning along Cram Creek Road in the Mayking Community of Letcher County.

Her husband Roger Elswick is behind bars on a wanton endangerment charge.

Police say there was some type of domestic altercation that led to Connie's death.

An arrest citation says he told police he got in his car to leave and his wife jumped on to the trunk of his car, and he said he thought she jumped off as he was driving down the road.

Police say they are not exactly sure what caused her death, though, and they hope to know more after an autopsy.

"She didn't know a stranger. She was very social and she loved to talk, and that is what she lived for," said Leah Webb, Connie's sister-in-law.

Connie's family says she she was always giving to people, and that her children were her world.

"We all love her so much, and we are going to miss her," said Webb.

Police are continuing to investigate exactly what happened, and they say more charges are possible.

Roger Elswick pleaded not guilty Thursday afternoon in district court.

He has a preliminary hearing set for next Tuesday at 3:00.
