TALCUM, Ky (WYMT) - Police are investigating after a deadly shooting Tuesday night in Jamestown Village on the Knott/Perry County line.
Police say one person is dead and another is injured, but police have not filed any charges.
The call came in around 10:30 on Christmas night.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that maybe we had two individuals go to a residence claim they needed to borrow gas," said Trooper Tony Watts with Kentucky State Police.
Police say 61-year-old Ricky Sweet went to his back storage building to get some gas, but when he returned police say the two men tried to rob him.
"One of the individuals there demanded money and brandished a firearm. At which time the victim pulled a firearm that he had in his pocket, fired one time hitting one of the perpetrators," said Watts.
Police say several rounds of gunfire were exchanged.
Police say Pratt ran around to the front of the trailer before he slumped to the ground. He had one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sweet was taken to the hospital with multiple gun shot wounds.
Police say this investigation is still in the very early stages, and so far they have not filed any charges.
Police are working to identify a second suspect that was at the scene.
Police say they are not sure if there is any connection between Sweet and Pratt.
Sweet was transferred to UK Hospital. His condition is not known.
