Police investigate murder in Knox County

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (AP) - An eastern Kentucky woman is accused of fatally shooting a man she was supposed to be caring for.

Kentucky State Police say they have charged 49-year-old Charlene Sue King of Barbourville with murder in the slaying that happened early Tuesday at the home of the victim.

Police say a preliminary investigation found that the owner of the home, 75-year-old Earl Carter of Barbourville, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner's office. The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Police say King, who was the victim's caregiver, has been lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. It wasn't immediately known whether she has an attorney.
