FREEBURN, Ky. (WYMT) - For the second time this month, a Pike County convenience store was robbed. Police say cash was stolen Thursday night from 'Bella's Gas and Go' and the owners think the same two men are behind both robberies.
The store sits right at the Kentucky - West Virginia line and is popular stop for folks in the Freeburn community.
It is a place that owners say always seemed safe, until recently.
Talbert Farley says, "This is the second time it has been robbed in the last two weeks, it had never been robbed before in its history...and it is really bothering us."
Farley says in both robberies two men entered the store just before midnight, showing a weapon while demanding cash.
"They showed a gun and that was enough, cashiers are instructed not to resist...always give the money, no matter what," explains Farley.
Leading him to believe the same two men are responsible for both crimes.
While owners say the robberies are frustrating for them, they are also taking a toll on their employees.
Farley says, "Our cashier was very disturbed over it, as a matter of fact he quit his employment and we hired a new individual. He has been with us for 4 days and now he's been robbed."
As police investigate, Farley says they hope those responsible are caught and also receive the help they need.
"We are really disappointed that our economy is to the point that they have to steal to stay alive," says Farley.
In hopes that his store can once again be a safe place.
Farley says they were able to catch the crime on surveillance and police are reviewing the footage.
