VIRGIE, Ky (WYMT) - UPDATE 6:00 p.m.:
Police are searching for a suspect after an afternoon bank robbery in Pike County.
Police say someone came into the Community Trust Bank in Virgie around 2:00 Thursday afternoon with a gun demanding money.
It came as a shock to many in the tiny community.
"It's ridiculous the way people are treating our community now. If they want money why can't they just sell something that they own instead of robbing a bank?" said James Ray who lives nearby.
Police say the robber did get away with some cash but dropped some of it in the creek on his way out which several troopers collected while canvassing the creek bank.
"He's approximately six feet tall, a slender build. He was disguised. He fled on foot," said Trooper Derek Sturgill.
Police say he was wearing a white hoodie with his face covered.
No one was injured but folks there say this sort of thing leaves them unsettled.
"In my opinion crime is getting way out of hand because this ain't the only robbery that's happened recently in this area. I'm getting a little bit worried to be walking out here nowadays," said Robbie Eversole who lives nearby.
The bank was closed for the rest of the afternoon, and employees were held there for several hours.
Police believe the robber may have had someone parked nearby that drove him away.
They are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact KSP Post 9.
