CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - Police in southern Kentucky are sending out a warning after a recent rash of crime.
There have been several break-ins and thefts in Corbin in the last few days and now police need your help catching the crooks.
Police are trying to solve several crimes around Corbin over the past couple of weeks. They say someone broke into a couple of restaurants and several vehicles at the movie theater parking lot and around town were broken into.
Police say during the overnight hours of December 6, burglars broke into both a McDonald's and a Subway in Corbin. They didn't get anything of value from McDonalds, but they did steal a safe containing $1200 from Subway.
They say they're looking into some leads on those break ins.
Just a few days before that, they say several cars at the movie theater parking lot were broken into. They say thieves stole tools and toolboxes.
They also say some homes in town also had tools stolen around the same time.
Police say witnesses reported some people loitering around a green Chevy Avalanche in the theater parking lot the night of the break ins.
They say people with any valuable items in their cars should use caution.
“They need to make sure that they're locked. Anything of any value needs to be taken inside. Most of the equipment that was taken belongs to construction workers. I know it's hard for them to secure those items inside their residence, but they need to make sure their toolboxes are locked and maybe add an additional lock as well,” Detective Rusty Hedrick said.
Police don't believe the break-ins at the restaurant and the break-ins to the vehicles are connected.
Police say they've gotten several tips about green Chevy Avalanche around town.
