Police arrest two for alleged hotel burglaries

Police in Hazard arrest two people who they believe are connected with many hotel burglaries across the area.

Police say surveillance video shows 40-year-old James Messer and 41-year-old Janet Jent stealing more than $40,000 worth of surveillance equipment from a vehicle at the Hampton Inn.

After searching Messer and Jent's vehicle, police found more stolen property from other hotels in the area.

“We assume that they were going to take the property to trade for pills or ascertain cash to obtain drugs but that's just an assumption at this point,” Detective Sgt. Paul Campbell said.

Messer and Jent are being held at the Kentucky River Regional Jail.

Their case will go to the grand jury September 9th.
