A Corbin man is in stable condition at U.K. Hospital after police say he drove around railroad crossing arms and was struck by a train.

The passenger, Steven Simpson, died.

This all happened Monday night outside Corbin in Whitley County.

People that live around Highway 26 say they are sick of seeing accidents and say something has to be done before another life is lost.

Folks that live in the area call it a dangerous place to drive.
The curvy roads and the railroad tracks make a deadly combination.

Police think Terry Elliotte was drinking Monday night when he tried to drive his pickup truck around the crossing arms.

While officers have always said drinking and driving do not mix...police say this area is known for accidents.

They hope this case might lead to improvements on the roads in Woodbine.

"It's unfortunate... we hate to see this happen but this is something we need to learn from and move forward and go on," said Shawn Jackson with the Williamsburg Police.

In the meantime, folks that live in the area say drivers need to be careful.

State police say the investigation is on going. No word if Elliotte will face any charges.

WYMT tried to get a comment from CSX railroad officials.
They have yet to return our phone calls.

Police say the operator did stop the train right after the impact.
