Just before 10:00 Sunday night, Kentucky State Police were called to a house on Route 195 in Pike County.
"Post 9 Pikeville received a call of a double shooting in the Marrowbone community of Pike County," said Trooper Shaun Little.
When police got to the scene, they say they found 44-year-old James E. Bowling dead from a single gunshot wound.
They also found 46-year-old Philip Silcox who was taken to Pikeville Medical Center where he was also pronounced dead.
Police are not saying what led to the shooting, but they say there is a third person involved.
"The third person involved in this incident, the name's not being released due to the ongoing investigation," said Trooper Little.
Neither of the men lived in the home where the shooting occurred. Police are not saying who the owner is or if that person is involved.
State police are releasing very little information, but they are calling it an isolated incident, and the community should not be worried.
"The people in the community is not in any imminent danger at this time," said Trooper Little.
Both Bowling and Silcox were from Elkhorn City. Their bodies were taken to Frankfort for autopsies.
Police are investigating. They say it is a death investigation, not a murder investigation.
