A man is now in jail, charged with the murder of a Kentucky teenager.

Versailles Police have arrested 27-year-old Alex Muniz.

They say he fired the shots that killed 18-year-old James Crowe last Friday.

Police say detectives have been working around the clock on the case.

On Tuesday morning, Versailles Police announced they had arrested Muniz, and charged him with murder.

Friends of Muniz were shocked to hear of the arrest. One woman said, "Alex is one of my really good friends. He's really quiet, he doesn't bother anybody."

Crowe was found shot to death in the parking lot of the Arbor Place Apartments.

Neighbors like, Dan Drury, who heard the shooting says things haven't been the same around the complex since.

"The last few nights," says Drury, "you don't see any kids around here like they used to."

Police were called to the apartment complex around 9:30 Friday night, after getting reports of gunshots.

Witnesses we spoke with shortly after the shooting say they heard up to 10 shots being fired.

One person said a stray bullet was found in a nearby apartment.

Police say because this shooting happened in front of so many people, they were able to make an arrest in this crime.

"It was a very open and public place where the murder took place," Matt Mitchell of Versailles Police said. "A lot of the neighborhood was around to witness it. Saw what took place and came forward with statements to lead to an arrest."

Police say Crowe was from Prestonsburg. They also say Crowe and Muniz only knew each other for about a week before the shooting.

Since the shooting, people have been coming by the scene, creating a memorial of flowers.

Muniz is now being held in the Woodford County Jail. Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting.
