A fight among friends turns violent. One man is stabbed and the other in jail.
Pikeville Police say 21 year old Daniel Gillispie stabbed 21 year old Tommy Bray Tuesday night at an apartment building on Poplar Street in Pikeville.
Bray is in intensive care, and Gillispie is charged with assault and impersonating a police officer.
Police say Gillispie confessed he pretended to be a police officer to get Bray to open the door, and then stabbed him.
Friends at the apartment building say the fight between the two men started because Gillispie was mad someone called him a "rat."
Madison McGuire said, "It was bad."
Madison McGuire says she is friends with her neighbor Tommy Bray. The man she was dating is charged with stabbing him.
"Daniel is not that kind of person. I never thought he would do anything like that," said McGuire.
She says Daniel Gillispie was visiting her in the upstairs apartment when he got into an argument with Tommy Bray who lives downstairs. She says later someone sent Gillispie a text message saying they called him a "rat."
"Daniel automatically left and he went to his car, and we looked out the window, and we asked Daniel what he was doing and he said it was nothing. Then we heard him knock him knock on the door, and they asked who it was and he said police, and they opened the door. We heard arguing and then I see Gage run out the door with a stick and I see Tommy run out into the road holding his side, blood gushing," said McGuire.
Police say Bray has severe injuries and underwent emergency surgery.
Detectives arrested Gillispie on scene.
"He admitted to the altercation and admitted to pulling a knife and stabbing the subject as well. He stated the fight started over some of the victim's family calling him a rat," said Detective Phillip Reed.
Gillispie is charged with assault and impersonating a police officer because he allegedly claimed he was police to get Bray to open the door. He is in the Pike County Detention Center on a $30,000 full cash bond.
"I'm just shocked because Tommy is our friend. Daniel is our friend. I don't know, I have love for both of them. It's just crazy. It's shocking," said McGuire.
McGuire says she visited Bray in the hospital, and he is expected to survive.
Gillispie is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
