Police searching for Double Kwik robbers

Police are now searching for two men who robbed the Double Kwik on Highway 15 in Letcher County.

It happened last night at about 10:30 when police say the men demanded money and cigarettes at gunpoint.

Descriptions of the two men are limited, but police are hoping people in Letcher County can help in the investigation.

Two men did not enter the Double Kwik in Isom to pay for gas. They wanted money and cigarettes.

Clothing descriptions are the only things police have to go on.

"They appeared to be wearing green jackets, ski masks, and camouflage shirts," said KSP Trooper Steve Smallwood.

They robbed the cashier at gunpoint, but no shots were fired and no one was injured.

The two suspects were last spotted behind the gas station where they jumped on an ATV and got away.

People who live in the area say they are startled by the robbery but will continue visiting the Double Kwik.

"Well, it makes you feel nervous because you never know where you're going to go and this is going to happen," said Dorthy Lucas, who lives in Whitesburg.

"It's going to happen. It's just bad that it has to happen in this community," said Anthony Cornett, who lives in Knott County and stops at the Double Kwik everyday on his way to work.

Police say they need the public's help in catching these suspects.

"It doesn't really make me nervous because eventually they'll get caught," said Cornett.

For now police are still investigating hoping surveillance video reveals the men's identities.
