An inmate is on the run after escaping from a work release program Tuesday in Perry County.
33 year old James Herald was cutting grass with about one dozen other inmates at the Perry County Park.
Herald was reportedly weed-eating at the entrance of the park near Highway 15 when he ran off around 1pm.
Hazard Police and the Perry County sheriff's deputies are out searching for Herald, trying to return him to the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
"Just obtaining the information, going to their last known residence. Locating them. Trying to talk to some family members. You know, help lure them back into the jail. Tell them to turn themselves back in." Captain Jason Duff with the Hazard Police Department said.
Herald was in jail for shoplifting and public intoxication and had about 150 days left on his sentence.
Police say he faces an additional year behind bars on escape charges.
Herald is reportedly from Combs and police say he might be headed in that direction.
